Evgeny Borets

Pianist, trio leader. Since the second half of the 80s he has been a leading jazz musician in Kazan.

In 1993 graduated from the Kazan Conservatoire in piano, debuted as a jazz pianist with a solo programme at the Kazan festival "Jazz Crossroads". He considers Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Thelonious Monk and Michel Petrucciani to be his idols. In 1988-93 he was a member of the most famous ensemble of the city - the Kazan Quartet (Mikhail Savin - saxophones, Andrey Falco - bass guitar, Ildar Nafigov - drums). In 1993 received a special prize of the Polish Jazz Academy at the competition "Jazz Juniors" in Krakow. In 1994 after M. Savin left jazz he organised the trio BoNaSo (abbreviation - Borets-Nafigov-Solodovnikov), with the help of which he managed to revive jazz life in the capital of Tatarstan after the "death" of the annual festival "Jazz Crossroads". He organised a series of concerts with guest soloists including David Goloshchekin, Igor Butman, Arkady Shilkloper, Daniil Kramer, Nikolai Panov and Andrei Kondakov. He participated in many Russian festivals, in 1997 he received the 2nd prize at the Pianello val Tidone competition (Italy), in 1998 he was the producer of the Saratov jazz festival. In 2000 together with his trio he moved to Moscow.
