Yalla

Yalla is a Soviet and Uzbek media outlet founded in Tashkent in 1970 under the direction of Farrukh Zakirov. He is known for the songs "Three Wells", "This is Love", "The Last Poem", "Nasrudin's Song" and others.


Created by the students of TTHI, the ensemble began with the name "VIA TTHI". In 1969, the Zakirov brothers joined them, and the band became known as Yalla.


The success of Yalla is associated with the use of Uzbek folk instruments and motifs. The repertoire included songs in Uzbek, Russian and English. Farrukh Zakirov, who joined in 1972, made a significant contribution to the creation of the image and repertoire.


In 1973, the ensemble participated in the X World Youth Festival in Berlin, where their songs entered the top 10 of the German charts. In the USSR, they became finalists of the "Song of the Year" in 1981-1988.


In 1981, the first album "Three Wells" was released. Over the years, the songs "The Last Poem", "Shakhrisabz", "Tightrope Walker" and others have become popular. In 2000, Zakirov became Deputy Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan, but continued to run Yalla.


On September 30, 2002, the ensemble celebrated its anniversary in Moscow. The members of the first line-up created the Retro Yalla group, which performed with the repertoire of the 1970s. In 2005, the ensemble celebrated its 35th anniversary with gala concerts. In 2006, he participated in the show "Legends of Retro-FM" on Channel One.
