Composer Valery Biktashev was born in the village of Tokarevka (Republic of Kazakhstan). Graduated from the Temirtaus Music College (Kazakhstan) like a pianist. As a student of the music college, he became the winner of the first prize of the Kazakhstan Piano Competition. Subsequently, he graduated from the Gnessin Music Pedagogical Institute (now the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music). as a pianist, and then as a composer. After graduation, Biktashev worked as an accompanist in a vocal class at The Gnessin College, the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Sveshnikov Choral College, and the Schnittke Moscow State Institute of Music. And it was with vocal music that Valery Biktashev began his career as a composer. Commissioned by guitarist Dmitry Tatarkin and in collaboration with him, he began writing for guitar. Since 2002, he has been collaborating with the N. N. Nekrasov Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments.
