Firma Melodiya presents recordings by the outstanding violinist Vadim Repin.
"Repin is one of the best we’ve got in the solo violin world. Like his great Russian predecessors, he can convey intensity and passion without forcing his tone…" wrote Los Angeles Times.
"… the most perfect violinist of all I have heard", said Yehudi Menuhin.
What makes this album particularly interesting is that it demonstrates the mastery of then a very young violinist on the onset of his career. The featured recordings were realized in 1984 to 1986 when Vadim Repin was a student of the Novosibirsk Conservatory under the famous professor Zakhar Bron. His victory at the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in Brussels was still ahead, but he had been awarded the gold medal of the International Henryk Wienawski Violin Competition at the age of eleven, triumphantly played solo concerts in Moscow and Leningrad, performed in Tokyo, Helsinki, Berlin and Munich.
Tchaikovsky's violin concerto and Beethoven's romances for violin and orchestra are performed with the Novosibirsk Symphony Orchestra conducted by Arnold Katz. Repin also plays Eugène Ysaÿe's sixth sonata for solo violin.
