Firma Melodiya continues the series of vinyl records that feature the art of the great violinist of the 20th century David Oistrakh.
In the 1960’s, Oistrakh’s recitals were already not that frequent. The musician was more focused on conducting and educating career. All that made a series of his joint performances with Sviatoslav Richter within 1967 to 1972 a significant event.
Outstanding musicians not always manage to create a genuine ensemble when they play together. Oistrakh and Richter, two of the greatest representatives of the Soviet music performing school, combined solo and ensemble performance throughout their careers finding a lot of common features in each other’s art. The listeners of those concerts were witnesses of truly unique co-creation of the two great individualities whose main purpose was Music.
David Oistrakh and Sviatoslav Richter performed compositions of different periods and styles. This album features violin sonatas by Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms reflecting diverse sides to German romanticism.
