Benjamin Britten, the greatest English composer of the 20th century, worked in many genres. Influenced by the art of the brilliant performer Mstislav Rostropovich, the composer returned to instrumental music. For a decade, Britten worked on three cello suites, in which he combined compliance with Baroque models (in particular, Bach’s cello suites) with echoes of European Neoclassicism of the 20th century, as well as boundless admiration for the art of Mstislav Rostropovich.

Alexander Ramm is the first Russian musician after Rostropovich who turned to the Benjamin Britten solo cello suites and recorded them for the first time in Russia.

Alexander Ramm is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory where he studied with Natalia Shakhovskaya, a student of Mstislav Rostropovich. He is a prize-winner of some of the most prestigious international competitions, including the prize of the Geneva Neva Foundation in 2011 and the silver medal of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015. Combining striking artistic virtuosity with in-depth comprehension of the music he performs, he gained international fame as an outstanding cellist.
