P.Tchaikovsky wrote his Concerto No. 1 for Piano and Orchestra in B flat minor, Op.23 in November-December of 1974. In Russia the Concerto was performed for the first time in St.Petersburg on November 1, 1875 by Professor G.Cross, and in Moscow on November 21, 1975 by S.Taneyev. Thanks to his wonderful, “objective” (as Tchaikovsky said) performing, the Concerto was a great success. Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 was written by S.Rachmaninov in 1900-1901. It was performed for the first time by the author on October 27, 1901. Svyatoslav Richter’s concert activities, those of an artiste of extaordinary erudition, depth, power, will, and imagination - is a major phenomen of contemporary musical art. The programs of his concerts, held in this country and abroad, include almost the entire wealth of the world’s piano literature.
