Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov (1865–1936) was a Russian
composer, conductor, music and public personality.
In his works, Glazunov developed the traditions established by
the composers of The Five, as well as the aesthetic principles of Pyotr
Tchaikovsky, thus combining the two foundations of the Russian
music – lyric drama and lyric epic.
Symphonic compositions of various genres, from miniatures
to symphonies, are the core of Glazunov’s musical legacy.
This programme features such symphonic fantasias as The Forest
and The Sea. Besides, it includes Oriental Rhapsody and two suites –
Characteristic Suite and Ballet Suite performed by the USSR State
Academic Symphony Orchestra conducted by the celebrated Evgeny
Svetlanov.
