Melodiya’s archival and historical project features broadcasts of the concerts during the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s first tour in Moscow in January 1967. The album includes the recording of the January 7 concert that took place at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory under the baton of Sir John Barbirolli. The recording of that concert is released for the first time. The album preserves the atmosphere of that January evening with its deafening applause, encores, and even the magnificently performed national anthems of the USSR and the UK that opened the concert. The featured appearance of the famous cellist Jacqueline du Pré, who performed her signature number, Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto, is a true gem.
Concerts: January 7, 1967 — January 8, 1967 — January 10, 1967
