For the 80th anniversary of the birth of pianist Nikolai Petrov, Melodiya releases digitally mastered recordings of complete piano sonatas by Sergei Prokofiev.
Nikolai Petrov, one of the prominent performers of the Russian repertoire of the 20th century, recorded the cycle of Prokofiev piano sonatas in the 1970s. This recording showcases the pianist’s “power and scope,” as conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky put it, impeccable accuracy, depth of sound, and dramatic organization.
In total, Melodiya has released over 40 records by Nikolai Petrov, and the recording of complete Sergei Prokofiev sonatas is one of the results of his collaboration with the firm.
