Firma Melodiya presents Rudolf Kehrer, one of the most extraordinary and original representatives of the Russian piano school of the 20th century.
This remarkable musician is a rare example of combination of scientific and creative talents in one man. Born to a music family, Kehrer starting to study music at an early age but later had to become a mathematics teacher after graduation from a physical and mathematical college. But later on, after a long break, he returned to his music studies. After Rudolf Kehrer won at the All-Union Competition of Music Performers in 1961 (1st prize), he achieved his so long-awaited fame. His concerts in Moscow, Leningrad and other cities of the Soviet Union and abroad were always a success.
For 41 years of performing activities, the pianist gave over 2000 concerts and taught at the conservatories in Tashkent, Moscow and Vienna. Living on the junction of Russian and German cultures, Rudolf Kehrer included in his repertoire Viennese classics and Russian composers. However, he always showed a big preference to romanticism.
Kehrer's performance is distinguished with romantic quality, poetic liveliness of intonation and "vibrating" pauses. This disc includes piano cycles of 24 preludes by Frederic Chopin and Alexander Scriabin performed by Kehrer.
