Tamara Sinyavskaya (born 6 July 1943, Moscow, USSR) is a Soviet and Russian opera singer (dramatic mezzo-soprano) and teacher. Winner of the Lenin Komsomol Prize (1980), People's Artist of the USSR (1982), People's Artist of Azerbaijan (2002).
She was born on 6 July 1943 in Moscow. At the age of six she enrolled in the Song and Dance Ensemble at the Palace of Pioneers in a dance group, but soon left ballet training. In 1953 she again came to the Palace of Pioneers, this time to study singing in the Song and Dance Ensemble under the direction of V. S. Loktev. After graduating from high school, she entered the Music College at the Moscow Conservatory (class of L. M. Markova, then O. P. Pomerantseva). She combined her studies at the school with her work at the Maly Theatre - she sang in the backstage chorus. In 1970 she graduated from the Faculty of Musical Comedy at GITIS (class of D. B. Belyavskaya).
After graduating in 1964, she passed the competition for the Bolshoi Theatre and was enrolled in the trainee group. She made her debut on the stage of the theatre as the Pagus in G. Verdi's opera Rigoletto. Soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre from 1964 to 2002. Last appeared on stage as Lyubasha in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's opera The Tsar's Bride.
In 1972 she took part in the Moscow Chamber Music Theatre under the direction of B. Pokrovsky in R. K. Shchedrin's Not Only Love (the role of Varvara Vasilyevna). Participant of the Varna Summer music festival (Bulgaria).
In 1973-1974 she trained at the La Scala theatre in Milan, where she prepared the roles of Carmen in Bizet's opera of the same name, Ulrika and Azucena in J. Verdi's operas Ball-masquerade and Troubadour, as well as the mezzo-soprano part in Verdi's Requiem.
She has performed in opera houses in France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, the USA, Australia and other countries. She has toured with concerts in Japan and South Korea. Some roles from her extensive repertoire were first performed abroad: Lel in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Snow Maiden (Paris, concert performance); Azucena (The Troubadour) and Ulrika (The Masquerade Ball) in operas by G. Verdi, as well as Carmen in Turkey. In Germany and France she sang works by R. Wagner with great success, at the Vienna State Opera she was a participant in the production of Prokofiev's opera "War and Peace" (Akhrosimova's role).
She has performed extensively in recitals in major concert halls in Russia and abroad, including the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam). The singer's concert repertoire includes the most complex works by Sergei Prokofiev, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the "Spanish Cycle" by M. de Falla and other composers, opera arias, romances and works by old masters accompanied by organ. She performed interestingly in the genre of vocal duet with her husband M. Magomayev. She has collaborated fruitfully with E. F. Svetlanov and has performed with many outstanding conductors, among them R. Shayi and V. Gergiev.
Since 2005 she has been teaching at Russian Institute of Theatre Arts, since 2008 she has been head of the Vocal Art Department.
