Ilya Ioff

Ilya Ioff was born in 1966 in St. Petersburg. His father was a musician.


Ilya Ioff has performed as a soloist and as a member of ensembles with outstanding musicians such as M. Argerich, M. Jansons, Y. Temirkanov, S. Stadler, A. Rudin, Y. Milkis, N. Alexeev, V. Ziva, A. Katz and V. Chernushenko. His performances have taken place both in Russia and in many European countries.


Ilya Ioff is a virtuoso who performs works by virtually all of the most important authors in the history of music who have written works for violin, from Johann Sebastian Bach to F. Glass. He has won the Special Prize at the ARD Competition in Munich, Germany, and the First Prize at the J. Viotti Competition in Werchester, Germany. He won the First Prize at the G. Viotti Competition in Vercelli (Italy).


During his career Ilya Ioff has given numerous concerts in which he has performed works by composers from different eras, from Vivaldi and Bach to Martynov and Khrushcheva. His repertoire is amazingly diverse, and this has brought him well-deserved success with audiences in Russia, Europe and Japan.


Ilya Ioff has recorded several CDs featuring works from different eras and styles. Among them are Paganini's Concerto No. 1, sonatas by Mozart, Tartini, Schubert, Prokofiev, Franck, Schumann, Debussy and Brahms, Schubert Trios, Tchaikovsky, chamber music by Dvořák, Brahms, Arensky and Borodin, Schnittke's Concerto Grosso No. 1, music by Mussorgsky and other works.


In addition to performing, Ilya Ioff teaches violin at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and is a professor.


Ilya Ioff is an Honored Artist of Russia, winner of the St. Petersburg Government Prize in the category “concert performer” (2013), and an honorary member of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society.
