Sergei Slonimsky

Sergei Mikhailovich Slonimsky was born on August 12, 1932, in Leningrad, and passed away on February 9, 2020, in Saint Petersburg. He was a prominent Soviet and Russian composer, pianist, musicologist, and teacher, as well as a professor.

Slonimsky was awarded the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1987. He received the Glinka State Prize of the RSFSR in 1983 and the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 2002. Since 1957, he has been a member of the Union of Composers of the USSR, and since 1993, he has been a full member of the Russian Academy of Education. In 1959, he was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of Dance in Paris.

His creative legacy includes 34 symphonies, eight operas, three ballets, chamber and vocal music, as well as works for film and theater.
