Melodiya re-releases the record by Soviet composer Gagik Hovunts in digital format.
The 1980 album included 30 pieces for instruments of the symphony orchestra and piano that were compiled from several cycles of pieces composed in different years, as well as the piano sonata “Harmony of Mode.”
The composer arranged the 30 pieces in the order in which the instruments of the symphony orchestra appear in the score. Hovunts called the duets of the piano and symphony orchestra instruments invention pieces, from Latin inventio. This cycle uses basic melodic and rhythmic moves that emphasize the voice of each instrument, as well as the capabilities of European instruments in order to convey authentic Armenian melodies. The works are performed by renowned Soviet musicians Valentin Zverev, Anatoly Lyubimov, Valery Popov, Alexei Mikhlin, Rodion Azarkhin, and others.
